Eight Months After CIC 2025 Shanghai: How Global Implant Training Still Shapes Care at The Dental Clinic

Dr. Saqib Minhas reflects on his time at COWELLMEDI’s Shanghai conference and what has changed in his Karachi practice since.

KARACHI, Pakistan. In November 2025, Dr. Saqib Minhas, lead implantologist at The Dental Clinic in Karachi, travelled to Shanghai, China, to attend the COWELLMEDI International Conference (CIC 2025). The conference, organized annually by South Korean dental implant manufacturer COWELLMEDI, brought together implant dentistry professionals from multiple countries to review current techniques in digital treatment planning, immediate implant placement, full-arch rehabilitation, and bone regeneration.

COWELLMEDI is recognized internationally for pioneering domestic dental implant manufacturing in South Korea and for its rhBMP-2 bone regeneration technology. Its annual CIC conference remains a regular stop for implantologists comparing clinical protocols with colleagues practicing outside their home countries.

Nearly eight months on, Dr. Minhas says the value of the conference was never in the trip itself, but in what carried over into daily practice afterward. Sessions on digital implant planning, immediate placement, and bone regeneration have since become part of how implant cases are worked up at The Dental Clinic, alongside the 3D CBCT digital planning already used for every patient.

“Excellence is achieved through continuous learning, innovation, and sharing knowledge,” said Dr. Minhas, looking back on the sessions he attended.

He added that a conference is only useful if what is learned actually changes how cases are planned months later, not just how they are discussed at the time.

For patients at The Dental Clinic, this means implant treatment planning, whether for a single tooth, a full-arch rehabilitation, or a case requiring bone grafting, continues to reflect protocols reviewed on an international stage rather than settling back into routine once the conference ended.

Dr. Minhas also recalled completing a tandem skydive with dental colleagues while in China. Looking back, he said the experience still stands as a reminder that surgery and skydiving reward the same principle, what he calls “calculated risk,” decisions built on preparation, training, and a tested process rather than guesswork.
